Marius Takvam

Marius Takvam is a PhD candidate at the University of Bergen (UiB) and has an adjunct position as Research Assistant at the Norwegian Research Center (NORCE). He is a trained aquaculture biologist with a background in fish physiology, molecular biology and smoltification. For the past 5-6 years, he has worked with kidney function and role in salmonids in the hatchery phase with a special focus on salt/water balance and acid-base regulation.
In his work, he focuses on the interaction between fish physiology and the environment in land-based facilities, with the main focus on kidney development and health through important life stages, including smoltification. In addition, he has 10 years of experience from the aquaculture industry and is therefore well acquainted with various issues related to smolt quality and factors that can affect the survival of smolt after transfer to seawater. Since 2018, he has been associated with several projects, including Benchmark II (SFI CtrlAqua), Happy Salmon (NordForsk), Temp-Intens (FHF) and NephroReduce (FHF) as a Master student, PhD candidate, Researcher and Research Assistant.
