Gaute A. N. Helberg

Gaute Alexander Nedberg Helberg is responsible for smolt and RAS biology at Lerøy Seafood Group. He holds a PhD from UiT The Arctic University of Norway, focusing on the acoustic monitoring of Atlantic salmon in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).

His work combines fish welfare, production biology and data analysis to develop methods that can provide better insight into fish behaviour and production processes. During his doctoral research, he investigated how sounds produced by fish, feeding equipment and technical components in RAS can be used as sources of information on both feeding responses and system status.

In his presentation, Helberg will present key findings from this research, discuss the methodological strengths and limitations, and offer practical advice on implementing passive acoustic monitoring in RAS.
