Ole Gabriel Kverneland

Ole Gabriel Kverneland holds an MSc in Aquaculture, specialising in the relationship between water quality and smolt quality. More than 20 years ago, he became the first employee in AKVA group’s land-based aquaculture venture. Over 14 years, he contributed to the company’s growth and to the strategic acquisition and merger processes that positioned AKVA group as a total solutions provider. This work helped take the company’s land-based business area from zero to NOK 1 billion in annual turnover.

Since 2019, Kverneland has been Managing Director and Co-founder of Laksesystemer AS. The company’s main focus has been on developing feeding and lighting systems tailored to modern land-based aquaculture, where larger fish on land and a higher degree of water reuse place very different demands on technology than traditional flow-through facilities.

A core element of the company’s strategy is to transfer technology and knowledge between food-production industries through synergies with sister companies in Fjøssystemer, a group of companies that supplies technology to modern agriculture with annual sales of approximately NOK 2 billion.

In his presentation, Kverneland will draw parallels with other industrial food-production sectors and ask whether, in the future, we will move “from lighting to photobiomodulation”.
