Marius Nilsen

Marius Nilsen is a researcher at NORCE and has several years of experience as a technician in the Aquaculture and Marine Biodiversity research group. In addition to collecting and processing biological samples, he has contributed to data analysis in several major projects related to fish health, welfare and stress in salmonids.
This has also been the focus of the FHF-funded PreSSS project (Performance of Large Smolt in the Sea Phase), in which NORCE collaborates with project partners from Nofima, DNV and NMBU. The project has collected extensive health and welfare data from a wide range of large-smolt production groups. PreSSS examines how production protocols and conditions during the freshwater phase influence the subsequent performance of large smolt at sea.kommunikasjon.
Preliminary analyses of welfare parameters indicate substantial differences between production groups. These differences are associated with varying production choices, including light regime, salinity and temperature, which may give the fish different starting points when they are transferred to sea water.
