Åsa Maria Espmark (Nofima)

Over the past 21 years, Dr Åsa Maria Espmark (senior scientist at Nofima, Sunndalsøra) has worked on welfare, welfare indicators and stress in farmed fish, mainly focusing on salmon. In recent years, focus has been placed on the further development of new aquaculture technology and that the technology must be developed with the best interests of fish in mind. Espmark has led major Norwegian and international projects, such as OrAqua and FutureEUAqua, and a lot of time has been spent over the past seven years leading the CtrlAQUA Centre for Research-Based Innovation.

The main goal of CtrlAQUA is to develop technological and biological innovations that will make closed systems a reliable and economically viable technology for post-smolt until they reach a weight of 1kg.
