Åsa Maria Espmark
Åsa Espmark is an Acting Research Director at Nofima, with long experience as senior researcher in Nofima and with a PhD from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She has led major Norwegian and international projects, the most recent being the CtrlAQUA SFI and the EU project FutureEUAqua. She has also been in charge of the biannual “Smolt production in the future” conference, running for the eight time in October this year.
Her main areas of work as a senior researcher were welfare, welfare indicators and stress; mainly in salmon, but also in the cleaner fish species ballan wrasse and lumpfish.
Her research has been applied and in collaboration with industry, and the focus of the research has been to ensure that welfare is safeguarded through the use of different types of aquaculture technologies.
