Tom Ole Nilsen

Tom Ole Nilsen is an Associate Professor of Fish Physiology and Aquaculture at the University of Bergen. His research focuses on how environmental factors such as light, temperature and salinity affect smoltification, smolt quality and physiological robustness in salmonids.

In recent years, he has focused particularly on challenges associated with the production of large smolts and post-smolts, including nephrocalcinosis and renal physiology. A central aim of his work is to develop knowledge that can contribute to improved fish welfare and production in the aquaculture industry.
